The Lawn Crews Didn’t Want LMN. Now They Can’t Work Without It.

How Blumling Lawn Care turned crew resistance into crew buy-in, and made everyone more money doing it.

Customer: Blumling Lawn Care

Location: Lafayette, Indiana

Service Focus: Residential and commercial property maintenance, snow and ice management

Annual Revenue: $1.2M target (2026), up from ~$400K at time of joining LMN

Team Size: 3 crews, 7 field staff

When Lukas Blumling rolled out LMN’s crew app at Blumling Lawn Care, his field teams pushed back hard. A profit-sharing model tied to estimated vs. actual hours is what finally turned skeptics into believers and changed how the whole business performs.

New App, Real Friction

Before LMN, job instructions lived entirely in Lukas’s head. If a crew needed to know what a site required, he showed up and told them. It worked, from the crew’s perspective, anyway. Pen and paper was familiar, and familiar felt fine.

Lukas saw it differently. He was the bottleneck, and he knew it.

“I was very bottlenecked. I had to meet them at job sites to show them what to do. Now everything can be in the app.”

Getting everything into the crew app meant the crew needed to use it  and that’s where things got bumpy. The field time was having a hard time adapting, and they weren’t quiet about it.

“They kept saying, ‘I pushed this button, it says I didn’t push the button.’ It took a while for the crew to really get on board.”

It wasn’t that the crew didn’t understand why things needed to change.

“They understood, like, hey, we can’t keep doing pen and paper. We understand we need to do this. It was just a lot — trying to adapt to new technology.”

Lukas held the course. But he needed something that would make the crew want to get there, not just comply.

The Shift: When Efficiency Pays the Crew Directly

The turning point was profit sharing and the way LMN made it visible in the field.

Blumling Lawn Care runs a quarterly profit-sharing model: when the business performs well, the crews earn more. With LMN tracking estimated versus actual hours on landscape enhancement jobs, every field team member could now see exactly what a job was budgeted for before they started.

“Instead of me just saying, ‘hey, you have all day to do this job’ — if it actually takes five hours, they can do another job right afterwards. They know, because we do a profit-sharing system here, that if they do more, they make more at the end of each quarter. In hindsight, we all make more money.”

The estimated hours stopped feeling like oversight. They became the number the crew was targeting because finishing efficiently meant more work got done, and more work meant a bigger check.

From ‘It’s Not Working’ to ‘We Can’t Work Without It’

Part of what won the crew over was the routing. Mowing routes are now automated. And when rain pushes a Wednesday job to Thursday, the system re-optimizes without anyone rebuilding it by hand. For a crew that used to work off a clipboard, that’s a different world.

“I don’t even know what they would do without the crew app. They just love it.”

What Buy-In Makes Possible

When the crew is running on the system, not around it, the benefits compound everywhere. Less stress for the owner. Easier delegation. A business that doesn’t require Lukas to hold it together personally.

“Everything’s optimized and everything is in one central CRM. It’s easy to delegate. Not everything’s in my head.”

-Lukas Blumling

Blumling Lawn Care is targeting $1.2M in revenue this year, nearly triple what they were doing when Lukas joined LMN. And the crew — the same crew that complained about changing their system — is a meaningful part of how that happened.

Crew adoption is where LMN’s value compounds
