How Blumling Lawn Care Built the Right System Early and Tripled Revenue

Most operators wait until something breaks. Lukas Blumling saw the ceiling coming and built around it first.

Customer: Blumling Lawn Care

Location: Lafayette, Indiana

Service Focus: Residential and commercial property maintenance, snow and ice management

Annual Revenue: $1.2M target (2026), up from ~$400K at time of joining LMN

Team Size: 3 crews, 7 field staff

Blumling Lawn Care runs two busy seasons every year, a spring maintenance rush and a winter of commercial snow management with near-zero tolerance. Lukas Blumling adopted LMN before either one outgrew his systems. That decision is what’s taking him from $400K to $1.2M and beyond.

The Outcomes

  • Revenue nearly tripled — from ~$400K at time of joining LMN to a $1.2M target this year, with a goal of $5M by 2030.
  • Underpriced services identified and corrected — the budgeting tool revealed margin gaps that had been invisible for years.
  • Owner out of the daily bottleneck — routing, job instructions, and scheduling all live in one place. The business runs whether Lukas is on-site or on vacation.

Two Seasons. Double the Reason to Get the System Right.

Blumling Lawn Care runs two distinct waves of peak demand every year.

The first is the spring rush, mid-March through the end of June, where grass is growing fast, leads are flowing in through the website, and property cleanups, mulch installs, and plant installations are all happening at once.

The second is snow and ice management. From late November through mid-March, Blumling services commercial properties on a near-zero tolerance basis, keeping accounts clear around the clock for slip-and-fall liability.

Two completely different types of work. Two different pricing structures. Two seasons where a broken system doesn’t just cost you one bad quarter, it costs you twice.

That’s the context behind the decision Lukas made at year five to change the way they operate.

Building the System Before You Hit the Wall

By year five, Blumling Lawn Care had three crews, seven field staff, and around $400K in annual revenue. Routing was done on a clipboard. Lukas had to be physically present at job sites to show crews what to do because there was no other way to get the information to them. With two service lines to manage and two seasons of peak demand, everything ran through him personally.

Lukas had been listening to others in the industry, and kept hearing the same thing: the systems running a business at one level won’t carry it to the next.

“I knew just from listening to other peers in the industry that were farther along than me — realizing that we would come to an end point where what we were doing would only work for so long. I wanted to adopt this software before we needed it so we could kind of grow into it.”

He joined LMN at around $400K in revenue. Not because something had broken, but because he could see where it would.

What the Numbers Showed

The first place Lukas made an impact with LMN was with the budgeting tool.

For the first time, Lukas could see what jobs actually cost to deliver and compare that against what he was charging. He found that certain services were underpriced. Not severely, but consistently, in areas where costs weren’t being fully accounted for.

Fall cleanups were the clearest example.

“The fall cleanups that we were charging the year before were extremely underpriced. We realized, hey, we need to up our price.”

— Lukas Blumling

He adjusted pricing going into the next season with real numbers behind it. And the software that surfaced the problem? It paid for itself.

“We pay like $600 something a month and it easily pays for itself. I don’t even think about the cost because of how much we’re saving on the back end.”

— Lukas Blumling

Getting Out of the Bottleneck

The operational shift was just as significant. We wrote about how they overcame crew resistance in another case study. Mowing routes are now automated through the crew app. Job instructions live in the app, so Lukas no longer needs to be on-site to explain what needs to happen. And when he’s out of town, the business keeps moving.

“If I’m on vacation and I need to have our ops manager do the schedule, he can do that — versus me as the owner just doing everything without any sort of system.”

— Lukas Blumling

Year Six. $1.2M. The Road to $5M.

Blumling Lawn Care is targeting $1.2M in revenue this year. When Lukas joined LMN, the business was doing around $400K. The goal is $5M by 2030.

“LMN is making business easier. For our team, for our clients, for me. It takes care of the little things so I can focus on what I actually need to be doing to grow.”

Every season you run on guesswork is a season you can’t get back.

Blumling Lawn Care adopted LMN before they needed it. Two busy seasons in, the business runs on data instead of guesswork and it’s not going back. You can do this too.
